 An Artist Collective

Our Story

It started with a car accident and four artists living in the High Desert and an old motel room available in a historic building.

We want to provide a place for the arts in the High Desert by offering classes, putting together events, and of course coming together to offer our wares.  And, provide a sense of community by supporting our colleagues and fellow artists and artisans out here in the High Desert.
Art should be accessible to everyone. It's part of the human experience. It must be cultivated and supported. Everyone indulges in the arts, but not everyone feels they have access to it, not everyone feels it should be supported at all. We want to change that perception.

We are a collective. We have no employees and no managers, we're all just in it together trying make overhead costs, keep our head above water, and helping our community however we can.
And one day soon, we hope to open up membership to other artists and grow to a bigger, brighter future.

Kamren Rodain

A jack of all trades, Kamren worked largely as a 3d-modeler and animator, but also, a bartender and a designer and marketer for organic hotel soap amenities before he jumped into illustration full time. He's never looked back.
A life long learner, he's always interested in the sciences and technology and has the caffeine addiction to get him through long deep dives into interesting topics and his myriad of hobbies. Including being his friend's resident Game Master when it's time to roll some dice or learning the art of combat at the local SCA chapter.
He's a workhorse, but also breathes story telling, if he's not gaming or working he's analyzing the best way to weave a story or maybe getting lost in a book.

Bri Ambriz

A naturalist at heart Bri is an illustrator with a special interest in the natural world and science communication.
She likes being outside, likes getting her hands dirty, and is often accidentally a little on the pedantic side.
She's worked as a graphic designer, concept artist, and moderator doing some occasional consultation work before stepping full time into illustration and more recently scientific art.
She has a love affair with California and it's coasts, forests and deserts. Part of her goal in science communication and illustration is to help others fall in love with nature as deeply as she has.

Carissa Williams

Getting her start on paper with an interest in games and animation, Carissa's now known for her work designing jewelry-quality enamel pins and unique colorful pattern design. She holds a master's degree in art from the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
She's active at markets throughout Southern California and beyond where you might have seen her booth, The Onion Cakes Store. She also maintains a monthly pin club!
She's a big geek and isn't shy about sharing her enthusiasm for her favorite movies and games or, her affinity for well put together charcuterie boards. The best way to keep track of all that is to follow her on Instagram, where she is definitely the most active!

About Our Space

Welcome to The Historic Apple Valley Inn!
And, welcome to our studio.
We're in one of the old motel rooms way at the back end of the property. The mustard colored building with the red roof, but around the backside facing the highway. The only room with a vivid green door and an ever-growing garden.
It took a lot of work, but we transformed musty carpets, popcorn ceiling and dingy lights into a bright, clear, energizing and refreshing space to help us get into our creative flow. You can actually watch us transform the room on our YouTube Channel.

Out front we have seating, a little library, and a garden featuring plants mostly native to the Mojave. Including , Creosotes, Opuntias, and Cholla cactus. Our non-native species are mostly Lavender, to keep the pollinators and us happy.
If ever you stop by, take a seat, enjoy the view and read a good book.
If we're home, we'll offer you some coffee or tea!
